I was fortunate enough to meet Geoffrey Beene in 1990. I had fallen madly in love with his gold triple lace evening gown--my first Beene piece—and I had come into I. Magnin in San Francisco for my fitting. Mr. Beene, in town for the San Francisco Ballet Fashion show, of which he was the featured designer, walked into the dressing room with Miss Imogene Schubert, the American Collections Buyer and began fitting the gown on me immediately! This began my devotion to Geoffrey Beene’s clothes, which we feature in this shoot. Needless to say, Geoffrey Beene is an American treasure.
