THIS MONTH:
PARIS Spring 2004

Korean-born Ji Haye showed her eight Paris show, and we saw a sophisticated evolution in her design. She has always preferred drama and showmanship, and with her brilliant ways with organza, more was always more, red was the best. But this season, Ms. Haye took us down a more muted path, and showed us a quieter and more sophisticated approach. Utilizing black, navy, and various khaki shades---true couture colors---she was able to reveal in new light the genius of her slender cut and meticulous detail. Pleats, cones and roll-ups looked user-friendly in these quiet colors, which had couture clients sit up and take notice. But she did not abandon her love of reds and pinks, and her dazzling pink puckered and pleated gown and stole left the audience breathless.
