Julia's Clothes

Paris, July 7th - Dominique Sirop continues to create gowns that are nearly impossible to imagine---how did he do it? The master of folds, drapes and tucks did not disappoint this time. His evening dresses undulate with the models, some of the most beautiful girls working in Paris. As with many of his peers, Mr. Sirop is taken with feathers, and used them delicately and sparingly on some of his gowns. A tiger print coat revealed itself to be made completely of feathers—an amazing couture piece. This designer should be a regular for red carpet events. The question is why is Mr. Sirop not better known in the United States? When asked if Neiman Marcus was interested in this designer, Senior Vice President Joan Kaner said “Of course—but the fittings would be tricky.” Still, how wonderful it would be to have easier access to some of the most amazing gowns shown during Couture Week.

Seventeenth Century poet Robert Herrick’s tribute to a lovely lady indeed sums up the feel of Mr. Sirop’s collection:

Whenas in silks my Julia goes Then, then, (methinks) how sweetly flows The silent liquefaction of her clothes.
