FRED SATHAL HAUTE COUTURE 2006
By Margaret Pluvinage
The quest for understanding human existence through the designs of Fred Sathal was a creative and beautiful journey. Fred Sathal’s creations were full of movement just like the sky and the earth whose colors and movement were her inspiration. This collection is a call to the wild for tribal goddesses; and one after the other emerged barefoot with elaborate body painting, and braids trailing the runway. There is no need for shoes when the beautiful creatures of nature are wearing black tunics elaborately embroidered with sequins, beads, and palettes of blue, green, yellow, pink, and gold. A blue embroidered lace dress with black tulle dotted lace trim at the neckline enhanced the natural beauty of the goddess. A yellow lace dress with a snow leopard motif train was a rare species that could only have come from the creation of haute couture. A black lace shirtwaist dress with gold crochet detail would have any woman desiring a call to the wild. Fred Sathal is full of images inspired by nature that uncover the mysteries of life using shades of blue found in the sky and shades of brown found on the earth with just the right amount of glitter that shine like the stars in the sky. This collection called to the wild for beauty and delivered goddesses from the sky and the earth!
