This season Aquascutum’s Michael Herz and Graeme Fidler are making a strong case for the supremacy of the coat. The dynamic duo’s collarless dusters, deconstructed trenches and high standing-collar cassocks; cast in black and its juxtaposing companion white, with refreshing splashes of yellow and lilac, are to die for.
Referencing Cristobal Balenciaga’s architectural approach to the art of
clothes making, as well as the label’s extensive archives, the young
designers are reinventing British chic.
Experimenting with volume and proportion in the context of peplum shapes,
high waists, pleats and curvilinear silhouettes, Herz and Fidler successfully
modernize the familiar with contemporary strokes.
Case and point: the trench coat reinterpreted as boat neck dress. It is fresh, bold and simply irresistible.
