Fresh faced Nordic darling meets the Valley of the Dolls. Peter Jensen has earned himself a place in the fashion hierarchy with pure, unadulterated simplicity. But his quintessential naïve heroine, ever-ready to churn some organic butter, has developed a taste for ostentation. Strutting down the runway in a bouffant do and oversized jewels, encrusted with faux diamonds and emeralds, Jensen’s precious little Annemette has reinvented herself as Anne Welles.
Thankfully the no-nonsense style of the designer comes through in the form of pretty plaid separates, sensible cigarillo pants and darling pleated dresses. However, the brocade jodhpurs, iridescent coats and the whole fascination with gold lamé simply need to go. It would be great to see Mr. Jensen evolve and explore new frontiers along the way, but not at the cost of compromising ingénue elegance.
