What is a girl like Angela Missoni to do at a time when restraint and understatement are the buzz words of fashion? How can a print label, famed for its electrifying array of zigzag patterns, turn down the volume and reinvent all of a sudden? Angela tried to tackle this conundrum by toning down her color palette.

Superimposing tame patterns onto muted hues like beige, mocha, brown and grey; Missoni eliminated visual zing. But, in doing so, she must have felt compelled to overcompensate. Otherwise, how can one explain the dizzying mélange of unrelated pieces she piled one top of each other? This season, the Missoni line featured loose fitted chemises, frilly skirts, bat-sleeved kimonos, textured coats and ribbed leggings - layered indiscriminately to resemble a homeless thrift store shopper, wearing her entire wardrobe to ward off the cold.

After the show, Missoni described concept as “volumes in progress.” In all honesty, the collection was “a work in progress.” Sorry Angela, but it simply did not do it for us.
