J. Mendel’s Gilles Mendel was inspired by Faye Dunaway's Bonnie Parker and her effortless chic. For fall 2006, it’s all about a relaxed ease, looking polished but with an edge…easy glamour....The silhouette for day is long and lean which can be achieved either with a straight pant and fitted coat as a uniform of choice, or one can opt for a relaxed boxy jacket with an a line skirt to the knee. The color palette is comprised of dusky powdery colors with some faded burgundy, wild berry, midnight blue, charcoal, chalk, and dove. As for evening, it’s all about “being clouded in a veil of smoke”.
Standouts include the ‘brilliant’ white knitted mink Aran ¾ length belted cardigan which was shown over a white tuxedo blouse and dove grey chiffon pleated skirt; the brown and black leather jacquard coat with lavish fox hem (lavish fox hems are a big trend by the way); a brown broadtail coat with a three layered skirt; the knee length belted white art deco patterned mink coat with white silk blouse and black boiled wool pencil skirt; a simply beautiful evening gown in grey silk mousseline that was hand pleated and high wasted; the full skirted nude hand pleated silk mousseline evening gown with crystal straps and cut out keyhole front.
