Brian Wolk & Claude Morais, the duo behind the label Ruffian, dubbed their collection, "American Novel", and presented it at the very popular and elegant National Arts Club in Gramercy Park, a venue that seems to attract those designers working within the idea of ‘young couture’. The 34 piece line was defined by "exquisite tailoring and noble textiles" such as silk velvet, silk jacquard crepe de chine, architectural silk wool, and English Menswear." It was filled with cartridge pleated dresses; beautiful pin tucked blouses, cigarette pants, vintage inspired cloth coats with oversized pockets or cape sleeves, and a group of exceptional mink jackets and coats. Standouts were the wool jersey pin- tucked turtleneck in admiral blue with keyhole sleeve detail worn with a Scottish plaid bias cut skirt with self belt; the short belted ‘robe coats’ in both a purple and blue Donegal plaid as well as a buff cashmere; the short and full skirted mahogany mink ‘Garconne coat’ with oversized natural Fin raccoon collar; the mink ‘Gstaad’ blouson jacket worn with admiral blue silk and wool trousers; and the floor length midnight blue robe dress in admiral blue silk velvet with flutter sleeves.
