PARIS, March 2, 2006 - Young Belgian designer Christian Wijnants made his
Paris début on Thursday evening with a show staged in the Music Gallery of
the Musée de l'Homme. Swan headpiece-tiaras inexplicably crowned a series of
metallic gray dresses, some ornamented by lace trimming, and most cut with a
silhouette that didn't really work. There followed a series of tops that
wrapped around the arms like straight jackets, almost resembling bandages of
an Egyptian mummy. It didn't help that models walked like zombies, or that
some of the billowing capes could have been used as a costume for the Wicked
Witch of the West, or that the soundtrack of creepy organ music sounded fit
for a horror show.
