Philippe Richard From Beijing Beyond the Bank — Liu Qinghe Works, hosted and curated by renowned art critics Fan Dian and Yin Shuangxi, will be exhibited at the National Art Museum of China from March 28 to April 5, 2007. There will be over forty pieces of Liu Qinghe's new ink and wash works, with the reception starting at 3 pm on March 28. Liu Qinghe was born in 1961 in Tianjin City. He graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in 1987, and is now Deputy Professor at CAFA. Liu Qinghe is one of the earliest pioneers to develop the role of ink and wash painting and in using the medium to depict contemporary life. Since he exhibited in New Generations Art Exhibition in 1991 at the History Museum, his sustained efforts have produced a series of images in ink and wash which have become a representative symbol of contemporary painting. Liu's art practice has played an active role in the promotion of Chinese ink painting. From Shanghai via New York and BeijingShanghai Museum, jointly with Museum of Contemporary Art Shanghai presents Art In America: Three Hundred Years of Innovation. Co-organized with the Guggenheim Foundation and the Terra Foundation for American Art, this is the first survey exhibition of American art presented in the People's Republic of China. Approximately 130 important works of American art spanning the Colonial period to the present age, focusing on painting drawn from major U.S. and European collections will be featured. The exhibition premiered in Beijing at the National Art Museum of China in February and travels to Shanghai where it will be co-presented by the Shanghai Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art Shanghai, from May 1 to June 30, 2007.
