Anchors Away at Givenchy February 28, 2007 - Givenchy's nautical theme fall collection began where the January couture show ended, and this time Riccardo Tisci got the proportions right. You didn't have to look too hard to see the drippy mermaids of the spring couture season reformed into stylishly, and dryly, clad young ladies for fall. With gold anchored crests, weighty belts, and gold filigreed jackets, the look was sharp and refined. But the best of the collection was to be found in subtle touches — a pink chiffon number fitted with a tie that fell in pleats along the front of the dress, the pale, mimosa-colored ensemble that delicately balanced folds of pleated silk, or the luscious evening pièce de résistance, scalloped folds of black chiffon atop leather booted pants, a split top unfurling into a long train. It's hard to think of a more sophisticated, contemporary European look. Otherwise, little black dresses with fishnet leggings provided daytime options, as did the endless array of pantsuits. |
