Louis Vuitton March 4, 2007 - The Louis Vuitton show on Sunday afternoon was the grand finale of the Paris season, and like the LV logo, was intended to flash. With Scarlett Johansson sitting front row in a space erected in the Renaissance courtyard of the Louvre, Marc Jacobs sent out a tribute to the Flemish painter Vermeer. Models in painter's bérets trooped along in knitted tops, colorful lamé skirts, fuzzy smocks cut open down the front. Then came linear black dresses, billowing skirts, leather, nylon, an overlay of plastic ruffles, ostrich leather, plumes, watercolor prints, and so forth. All of the ideas got cluttered, leaving the Flemish canvass strangely underdeveloped. It was almost like the show was staged to put the new collection of Vuitton sacks on display, rather than the clothing—an idea that is hardly novel.  ;)
