Vuitton Men
By Timothy Hagy, Paris Editor

PARIS, January 27, 2007 - The French use the term "Look-Noir" to describe much of what has been coming down the catwalk this season in Paris, and nowhere could it be more appropriately applied than at Louis Vuitton. The evening wear of tuxedos pinned with brooches, bow ties and even a cape of water buffalo hide, made for images that could haunt a Jean Renoir film. Vuitton's men's line tends to be aggressive, power clothes for the power-conscious.

Lambskin trench coats and jackets gave way to cashmere sweaters in shades of gray, a spicy cinnamon overcoat and sportswear in the form of a patchwork parka. Footwear ranged from suede dress shoes to orange sneakers, with splashes of pink poured here and there.

Marc Jacobs, in an interview for Butt Magazine # 7 a few years back, admitted that he cares little for men's wear, and so entrusts the Vuitton collections to an assistant—in this case Paul Helbers.
