London autumn winter 07/08

Giles

I suppose you could safely say "it was all about knits", in describing the day wear from the Giles collection. Some of the poncho-wraps were crocheted of godzilla-sized yarn. Elsewhere, one silvery satin evening dress with train was a perfect example of how meticulous draping works, when it works. Another print evening piece, circled in tiers of clamshell pleats, was for all purposes an objet d'art. Otherwise, many of the pieces were as prickly as the porcupine quill headdresses that were featured alternately with ting ting. Giles may well be the new Alexander McQueen, but his designs need time to mature.
