Comme des Garçons Plus
By Timothy Hagy, Paris Editor

PARIS, January 27, 2007 - Rei Kawakubo sent out an eclectic collection inspired by Bohemian London of the 70s and 80s for Comme des Garçons Plus on Saturday afternoon. It may not have been her finest work, but did offer numerous charming details.

A melon-red satin suit worn atop a rose-print vest got pined with medallions. That ornament of choice was used in other variations including a cartoon-like representation of Michael Jackson. A striped, round-collared navy tunic was plastered with a red heart, while sunbursts and gold filigree cordons streamed down the front of dusty rose-colored shirts. As for the hat collection that ranged from a Dennis the Menace look alike, to Victorian top hats seemingly ripped from the set of Mary Poppins, no possibility was left uncovered.

In the end, too many ideas and too many variations got in the way of the main theme.
