It has been my pleasure to know about a very special street in Paris's fourth arrondissement since the seventies. Crossing the Seine from the Left Bank on Pont Louis Philippe, you will find the street that bears the bridge's name straight away. It is completely Parisian, although I feel some New York City merchants, particularly in Soho, may have taken some inspiration from the spirit of this street, a spirit that is difficult to classify. The most elegant pen and ink and stationery stores (Clin D'Oeil, Melodies Graphiques and Papier Plus), vie for attention next to Orphee, a store devoted to musical instruments both modern and ancient.
For those of you who collect crosses, and we know this has become quite popular in the past few years, Monastica, run by nuns, has beautiful examples for sale. Home accessories are represented by among others, the Japanese Kimonoya. I know the story of a prominent international dignitary's wife who desperately needed a kimono for a diplomatic event, and found one at the last minute at this store!
Elegant fashion accessory stores, even a cafe-bar specializing in margaritas can be found on this amazing little street. Fashionlines recommends a visit to this little retail heaven on your next trip to Paris.
