Richard Tyler's Autumn 2004 collection reminds us that he is a master of fine tailoring and of the understatement. Always with a light touch, he wove a retro ambience with short sleeved jackets worn over long sleeved blouses, high waited

pants and bodice wrapped gowns, mostly in earthy colors such as camel, beige and brown. This was not a daring or virtuoso performance. It was a small collection by his usual standard and a bit on the conservative side. Piece by piece, it was a beautiful group of clothes, mainly consisting of trouser suits, Mr. Tyler's piece de resistance. The pink and burgundy fitted hounds tooth three quarter coat was a particular standout.
