Missoni
Written by Sedef Kokcuoglu

The exceptional craftsmanship, design excellence and unique vision of the Missonis have turned their family owned one-time small business into a world class fashion tour de force. Today, the Misssoni name resonates with luxuriously stylish knitwear modish ladies cannot get enough of. Perhaps the brand’s long enduring success can best be attributed to the emphasis placed on timeless quality accompanied by imaginative reinvention. Now 50 years after Ottavio and Rosita Missoni took a risk and started their "zigzagged" adventure in Gallarate, Italy, the effortless beauty they were inspired by is perfectly embodied their granddaughter, Margherita. A classic Mediterranean beauty, brimming with the enticing vitality of youth, Margherita was in Milan, sitting front-row in support of her mother’s Spring 2005 collection. Much like her teasingly wholesome appearance, the new collection Angela Missoni conceived was fresh, effervescent and playful.

Commencing her collection with a sheer cream colored floor length dress accentuated with stripes and brown ribbon piping, Angela presented a gracefully pure, yet slightly mischievous new look. Next, playing around with the mouth-watering sweetness of juicy watermelons, enticing grapes, and zesty oranges, the ingenious designer appliquéd a piece of summer onto sheer sweaters and cardigans. Worn over long sleeved chiffon blouses embossed with prints these unique pieces communicate a message of naughty lightheartedness.

Indeed, the parade of cardigans, wrap-around sweaters, jackets and skirts in trademark Missoni stripes formed the backbone of Angela’s work, but this season these classics were accompanied by brilliant new additions such as the first-ever Missoni jeans. In order to achieve a delicately charming effect one can match a pair of vanilla colored M-jeans with a multi-hued striped pullover, topped off by a crochet scarf casually draped around the neck. However, for a fabulously breathtaking evening look opt for a lithe chiffon dress dreamy with frothy skirts.
