LA, October 25 -In an exclusive interview with Fashionlines, Louis Verdad proclaimed,
"My clothes say things that I cannot put into words. I have a passion for
things that are old. I walk into an antique store and I go crazy. I see so
much new in the old, it is fascinating." In line with that desire to "tailor"
the timeless grace of the by gone eras to fit the needs of modern life,
Verdad once again revisited the gold-gilded pages of fashion history for his
Spring 2005 look.
Rehashing the 40s fascination with nautical themes and motifs, the man
of the moment paired ultra feminine knits with razor-sharp fitted jackets,
defined by exaggerated shoulders. Against the back drop of the
heartbreakingly romantic tune, "Besame Mucho," Verdad sent out a dreamy
procession of navy culottes, poplin sailor dresses, pin tucked-chiffon
plackets, sweetheart neckline blouses, bouclé suits, and ruffled
Capris. Cast in black, white, navy blue, soft pink and muted pistachio colors,
accentuated by ribbon, button, and dentelle, accents Verdad's creations channel the
glamour of unforgettable cinema icons like Vivien Leigh, Ingrid
Bergman, and
Deborah Kerr.
Louis Verdad's nostalgia infused high-waisted trousers, Swiss dot puff
sleeve shirts, trumpet skirts, pinstripe suits and eyelet petticoats
redefine avant-garde elegance. Once again mesmeric charm, impeccable style and
tantalizing polish are in vogue.
