Junko Shimada's long show on Saturday morning went the gamut, incorporating
no end of variety in design and style. The problem with that approach is that
the collection appeared to lack any particular theme: there were strapless
dress, spaghetti strap dresses, dresses with exaggerated shoulders, dresses
that incorporated an overlay of tulle, dresses in which black piping outlined
bow ties over the breast, and dresses blossoming in vibrant plaids. It was
not until the finale that a set of Picasso-esque prints, and three pleated
chiffon evening pieces in turquoise, melon and black finally caught the
attention. In this case, less would have been more.
