São Paulo Fashion Week – Spring/Summer

This SPFW edition celebrated its 10 th anniversary reaching the post
of the 5 th biggest fashion week in the world, only behind New York,
Paris, London and Milan. And as it should be in the land of the most
beautiful women in the world, it was like the designers were celebrating
femininity.
What was most seen on the catwalk were volumous dresses with tight
waists, rounded skirts with drapes and ribbons, strapless pieces, flowy
gowns, looser pants and lots of beachwear with a touch of handcraft
from the northeastern region of Brazil.
Clochard pants with high waists were almost unanimity among the designers,
some tight and some very loose resembling the 80s. The prints were
colorful and the theme was flowers and psychedelic graphics. Attention
to the embroidered details. The strapless tops and dresses were a must,
mostly shiny to bring out glamour in the summer nights.
Of course, summer in Brazil means lots of bikinis and that means usage
of the minimum amount of fabric possible ! This year the bikini designers
chose embroidery and handcraft arts to give a touch of glam to the
pieces. For the boys the designers proposed a mix of sport and high
cut suits.
The highlight was Lino Villaventura, the only designer brave enough
(or maybe talented enough) to show concept on the runway, fleeing from
the ready to wear wave that has taken over the fashion world.
