By the time the Lanvin show had ended on Sunday afternoon, Louis Vuitton, the earning force behind LVMH, had sent a specially painted logo-bearing car to the Hôtel Le Meurice to ferry VIPs to the secret and undisclosed location ( Le Petit Palais) where the summer collection was to be shown.
Just up the street, Vuitton reopened it’s flagship store on the Champs Elysées which had been closed for three years of facelifting. Extravagant? But of course - a seven floor cathedral mirrored in gold and silver, a liquid dome with 1900 strands of stainless steel.
The Vuitton show effectively brought Paris fashion week to a star-studded close, and given that more money flows into the label than anywhere else, perhaps it was fitting that the front row sparkled with a stellar crowd: Hélène and Bernard Arnault (First Lady and President of LVMH), Sharon Stone, Uma Thurmond and Catherine Deneuve.
The over the top show left not a stone unturned, as Marc Jacobs placed flourish on top of flourish. The highly ornamented pieces used embroidery, fringe, appliqué and stitching to create a look as complex as the ceiling of the Grand Véfour. Of special interest were the series of vibrant orange and fuchsia dresses that brought that made up the finale.
