10 Designers Selected for “UPS Delivering Fashion’s Future” NEW YORK, July 27, 2006 – UPS and IMG Fashion today announced 10 emerging designers who will present their collections as part of “UPS Delivering Fashion’s Future,” an exclusive platform showcasing up-and-coming designers at Olympus Fashion Week, Sept. 8-15 in New York. “UPS is excited to be back under The Tents for the second year, again delivering new faces of fashion to the world’s stage,” said David Abney, president of UPS International. “From New York to New Delhi, UPS is committed to the industry’s global growth, helping fashion houses both large and small turn concepts into collections.” The designers were selected in consultation with a committee of industry professionals including representatives from Vogue, Elle, Fashion Wire Daily, The Daily, Parsons, Saks 5th Ave, Henri Bendel, Browns, The CFDA, Fashion Group International and GenArt. Designers were required to have been in business for at least two years and have sold a minimum of two collections to a variety of boutiques and department stores to show in the “UPS Hub” venue in Bryant Park. The selected designers are: Alice Ritter Born and raised in France, Alice’s designs are a mix of French and American culture, inspired by the creative freedom of New York. She created her first ready-to-wear collection last year. After moving from Florida to Manhattan in 1999, Brian worked with Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors and Oscar de la Renta. Reyes just launched his own line of polished cropped jackets, filmy cocktail frocks and chiffon shorts using eveningwear fabrics for daytime separates. Erin Fetherston A California native, based in Paris, balancing fairy tale with sensibility…Erin likes to be known as a “young American designer with a couture collection in Paris.” Her pieces are young at heart, dreamy, confident and make you feel like “playing dress up.” Michon Schur (Stephanie Schur) Designer Stephanie Schur is inspired by the past. The vintage idea of detail and handwork is evident in her work with lace inserts, scalloped hems, silk ruffles and collars that reference the twenties. Sabyasachi (Sabyasachi Mukherjee) Hailing from Kolkata, India with three major design awards, Sabyasachi retails at all the major fashion boutiques in India. The designer forayed into films with his costumes designed for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Black” and he was the most anticipated show at Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai. His collection has been featured at Brown’s in London for several seasons. He was also the only Indian designer invited to showcase at Milan Fashion Week 2004. Sari Gueron Israeli born Gueron worked with John Galliano and Oscar de la Renta before launching her own label in 2003. Essentially modern, with nods to the 1920’s and 1930’s, Sari uses wispy silks, crepe chiffons, laces and handkerchief hems which allow her pieces to flow loosely while clinging in just the right places. Terexov (Alexander Terekhov) All the way from Russia, designer Alexander Terekhov brings his own style using only natural fabrics (silk, cotton, rayon, flax). He often prints slogans on jersey t-shirts and dresses, and believes that dresses and skirts are better for women than jeans or trousers. Toni Maticevski As one of the most talked about names in Australian fashion, Maticevski’s signature look is made up of traditional fashion silhouettes and beautiful materials such as silk and organza. His vision, a complex method of folding, twisting, draping and pleating defines his very bold and dramatic style. Vena Cava (Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai) Since graduating from Parsons together in Spring 2003, Brooklyn based designers Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai have been designing their own vintage inspired collections. Subtle and elegant fabrics enhance their “simple” designs. Verrier (Ashleigh Verrier) As Ashleigh’s lady-like dresses take you back to the era when women were ladies and clothes mattered (an ode to old New York), her clothes are beautifully made, featuring intricately scalloped and beaded skirts and collars. “We applaud the talent of all of the designers who were selected this year,” said Fern Mallis, Vice President of IMG. “This initiative has been extremely well received by the industry and we are excited that UPS recognizes the importance and has made such a strong commitment to supporting emerging designers.” The UPS Hub tent, featuring the company’s signature brown color, returns for the second time housing some of fashion’s newest talents. Last year, the UPS Hub featured fashion success stories such as Doo Ri, Project Alabama, Abaeté and Tomer. This year’s new class of designers also will benefit from the opportunity to show their talents to an influential and international audience. UPS will underwrite the venue rental for the designers, which includes professional lighting, sound and technical elements that are the hallmarks of shows in The Tents. The designers also will benefit from special collateral and marketing materials developed by UPS for this initiative and will be included in the marketing and communications materials produced by IMG Fashion for Olympus Fashion Week. UPS also will commit to delivering the emerging designers collections to the venue. UPS will again host a series of events including a media and VIP reception on Tuesday, Aug. 15, and a panel discussion during Olympus Fashion Week entitled “Inside Fashion’s Future” for students of top design schools to learn more about the business of fashion.
