Alber Elbaz in Los Angeles
Jacqui Getty, Alber Elbaz and Tatiana Sorokko by Christine Suppes

Why does everybody love Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz? Because everyone secretly wants the good guy to finish first. Remember about a million years ago in the late nineties, when Alber was handpicked by Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé to take over design duties at Rive Gauche Yves Saint Laurent? Then Gucci came in, bought up YSL and forced Alber out after three seasons, replacing him with Tom Ford? Well Tom had his admirers, especially girls and boys who liked the image of three days of partying without the benefit of a bath. But most of us didn’t go for that look, the clothes didn’t sell too well, and Ford got ousted from the Gucci Group a few months ago.

Kelly Lynch and Angelica Houston But look at Alber. He’s just flourishing. All the freshest and prettiest girls want to wear his clean lined and ladylike clothes, which only hint delicately at a time gone by. Alber is completely modern, and his clothes are said to be selling up a storm at Barney’s, where these photographs were taken in May for the Rape Treatment Center. The event was chaired by Anjelica Houston and Kelly Lynch, and attracted the likes of Calista Flockhart, Carmen Electra and Rachel Griffiths. We love his coats the most, and can’t wait to see his next collection.
