MARY POPPINS GOES TO NEW DELHI
By Sedef Kokcuoglu
LA, October 25 - Paul Hardy has abandoned his heavy shearing maxi coats, warm wool textured
asymmetrical sweaters and natural finish suede jackets cast in conservative
colors like mocha, black, metallic gray and olive. This season the Hardy
woman has morphed into a bubbly Mary Poppins vacationing in New Delhi.
Dressed in taffeta skirts, caviar beaded dresses, chiffon printed chemises
and tulle gowns that are gently influenced by an Indian sensibility, these
ladies are embracing their femininity in stride.
In an exclusive interview with Fashionlines Paul Hardy confided, "Initially
I was concerned that people were going to think I don't know what I want, but
in reality the essence of this collection is the same as my previous ones. It
is all about the layering." Indeed, Hardy's British tweeds, turn of the
century silhouettes, floral embroideries, transparent silks, and beaded
textiles explore prim & proper's polished and elegant frontiers, but they
also honor the designer's trademark preoccupation with effortlessly beautiful
élan.
To conclude, Paul Hardy told Fashionlines, "I am traditionally known for the
neutrality of my work, but I felt that lightness is more appropriate for the
time." We could not agree more.
