ETHNO-URBAN
By Sedef Kokcuoglu
LA, October 25 - Heike Jarick’s describes her new body of work as "savage gypsies in the urban lagoon." However quite contrary to what her proclamation suggests Jarick’s creations, animated by metropolitan as well as multi-cultural inspirations, are essentially romantic, opulent constructions cast in luxurious fabrics. In fact none of the pieces in this collection, disbarring a transparent python motorcycle jacket, can be described as "savage". The designer’s layered crinkle cotton tops, iridescent kimono jackets, hand knit caplets, smocked front halter dresses and taffeta skirts are sophisticated clothes that resonate with an international sensibility.
This season Fashionlines’ favorite piece ala Heike Jarick is a teal draped and gathered silk jersey dress amplified by a sizzling back decollate. However if you wish to explore new boundaries, celebrate distant cultures and stand out from the crowd we recommend that you sport a Victorian bolero in African tapestry.
