Mary Antoinette Reincarnated
Set against the backdrop of theatrical silhouettes and operatic
colors, Cesar De La Parra’s new collection banked on exaggerated
volumes, embellished bravura, and opulent ostentation to create
a larger than life surrealism. The designer’s corseted, Elizabethan
looks accentuated by white powdered wigs, cascading trains and
lace petticoats hearkened back to the decadence of a royal court.
Under the haunting refrain of “Phantom of the Opera,” a
procession of models paraded chiffon blouses gathered at the wrists,
halters edged in lace, wool jackets belted at the waist, and full-length
coats with knit under-sleeves.
