Armani Privé
By Christine Suppes
Giorgio Armani presented a cool and serene collection for his elegant and luxurious clientele, which included Sophia Loren and Claudia Cardinale in the front rows. Assured and very Haute trouser suits were followed by day dresses, cocktail dresses, evening gowns and for the pieces de resistance, beaded evening jackets with chevron patterns, stripes and substantial charms like hearts hanging from the sleeve. The Armani palette is largely muted, with spikes of shocking pink and deep blue. Luxury and cut, such Italian couture concepts were paramount here, but Mr. Armani continues to explore embellishment such as the aforementioned hanging charms, lace and beading. His crystal capelets which dripped over the gowns were outstanding. It was said that in this collection, Mr. Armani lost his "fear of haute couture". There was nothing to fear in this beautiful and strong show.
