2006! If you are a bit familiarized with Brazilian culture you must know that this is a very important year for our country. The hype and the overall feeling of nationality is easily perceived as soon as you get off the plane and take your first breath of tropical air. Events to come? Not least then a presidential election, in the middle of a left wing turned right party crisis, and a soccer world cup, with Brazil being the favorite to win its 6th world title.

Fashion is paying its duty, dressing Brazil in green, yellow and prints with patriotic sayings. The first day of this winter edition of São Paulo Fashion Week presented us not only with fashion, but it also made a statement; that this is the year that Brazil will turn its eyes to itself. I can’t wait for these events, and the next 6 days of Fashion Week. Stay tuned.

Rogerio Mesquita, from São Paulo.
