this holiday season - his exodus from the fashion stage proved short
lived. Ford has previously announced plans to launch a men's line, to
be debuted in New York in Spring 2007, and now has set up his own
company, Tom Ford International. Tom Mendenhall, a former Gucci
merchandising director, has been hired as Operating Officer and will
focus on retail development, distribution and managing daily
operations, according to a statement.
Last week Ford launched Tom Ford Black Orchid, his first fragrance
separate from his collaboration with Estée Lauder. The black bottle
carries a 23-carat gold-plate plaque on the front and is also being
marketed in a limited edition black crystal Lalique version. The
fragrance will be followed by hair drops, an extensive "private" blend
of fragrances, a men's grooming line and, by 2008, a make-up line
including 96 products.
