Rich Girl Chic By Christine Suppes
Paris, July 8th - Stephane Rolland used to design witchy looking ensembles that had something to do with the occult. In the past several season, he has eradicated this tendency in favor of what can be called “rich girl chic”, where sumptuous colors, luxurious fabrics and amazing jewels are called upon to temper Rollande’s slightly twisted wit and humor. This is not a straightforward glam only collection as with, say, Elie Saab. A white organza off the shoulder gown with long bell sleeves and intricate black embroidery invited one to look carefully at the garment, which included a small image of a woman between two men embroidered at the hem. Rollande does color saturated day suits and evening gowns for clients with a classical yet strong self image. He is liberal with crystal accents. A long, flesh colored organza and embroidered black tulle dress was a standout. The bride came onto the catwalk with a real baby. The baby looked adoringly at the bride. The bride looked a bit frightened. Haute couture is that way.
