"Vast Skies that Yield Dreams of Eternity"
Amish girl goes preppy. This season Liliana Casabal’s
creations for Morgane Le Fay highlight sinister solemnity alongside
restrained exuberance.
For Fall 2005, inspired by Baudelaire’s ‘Landscape’,
the eclectic designer created a surrealist collection constructed
upon the “concept of letting go of your mind and the day
to day reality.” Reminiscent of the work of a young Nicolas
Ghesquiere for Balenciaga, Casabal worked with volume and proportion
to manipulate conventional silhouettes. Her whale boned velvet
jackets, pleated wool skirts, cashmere capes and draped jersey
tops communicate a simple élan dictated by cut and construction.
Devoid of distracting embellishments, these are architectural
clothes rely on well thought out design and rigorous tailoring
to craft visual drama.
